This lovely boy is Barbedoux Riva Di Castro aka Joep and he is the chosen one for my sweet Snoop.
https://pawpeds.com/db/?a=p&ids=3:1252037;2:1335105&g=4&p=bar&o=ajgrep
He is about the same size as Snoop, weighs a little less but Snoop is a heavy female which no doubt she has inherited from Martha.
He has been fully health tested for breeding in Holland and most importantly does not carry VWD type 1 as Snoop is a carrier. Three of his litter have been hip scored and all have A hips which is very nice to see.
Described as a very stable male which is perfect as Snoop is a lively lass.......
My aim always when choosing a male is to have a plan as to breeding on, as the future is so important for the breed emerging in the UK. This pedigree in the making has barbets that I have met over the years, and if I haven't met them personally then I know about the lines so that has also helped my choice.
Now it is just waiting for Snoop and her timings.

The Kennel Club have accepted the Barbet
THE KENNEL CLUB
Well what can I say?
Finally ''The Barbet'' has been accepted onto the import register by the Kennel Club.
We now have a lot of work ahead of us, but we have been rehearsing this moment for years so I think we are well prepared.
A team effort by the Barbet Club, with input and encouragement from friends of the breed overseas too.
Watch this space!

Novaforesta New Moon at 7 weeks
Novaforesta New Moon ,this boy can play rough with Snoop, well I mean he doesn't run and hide when she goes silly! I am fairly certain I have saved his life several times as not taking cover has a risk attached. He was very interested in the cat but has learnt after several swipes that best keep your distance.

Netis Jitterbug aka Pi
I had to share the show critique from the dog show we attended in Douai, France in June this year. However show results don't paint the whole picture of the dog and if Pi had a choice I think she would rather be in the forest.

Novaforesta James Brown at 7 weeks
Novaforesta James Brown soon to be called Boris, today he discovered a new room in the house so he stayed still for a couple of seconds but as I was standing behind him you have a rear end view :).
Biggest problem today was having 11 pups who never stop wagging their tails, they are a very happy litter so Hallie has done a grand job.
Novaforesta Jools Holland at 7 weeks
Jools Holland exploring the front garden, he was my quietest boy but not anymore. He will have a new name, but it has not quite been decided yet.

Novaforesta Janis Joplin at 4 weeks old
Novaforesta Janis Joplin, the little girl with the white chest who is continually turned upside down just to confirm its the little girl with the white chest (the downside of not using 11 collars!) Sorry to capture her peeing but these little things are important and the pups are definitely starting to use the puppy pads and with 11 pups in the middle of winter this sign of intelligence or cleanliness is vital.

Martha and her friend Herbie
Don't tell Martha but I think Herbie finds Pi more playful, he is a lovely boy who is kept perfectly groomed by his owners and he gets his walks in the forest so how they keep him so white I cannot imagine.

Charamese Hermione
Hallie is in season, so my pace of life has just gone up another notch and we are busy getting organised.
This will be a 'J' litter, so we should have fun choosing some suitable names.
More news as it happens as we are blood testing today.

Rugby the Barbet
If you look carefully you will see a hand holding Rugby, he is a rather lively boy and my camera just doesn't have a good shutter speed!. So a good photo of his nose to start, taking him to get confirmed could be quite a weekend as one can imagine how fast he will go round a ring.....He is a lovely charactor which is what is important.

Interesting dog trim

Not a Barbet, so do not get confused, but if you search through the 100s' of photos of Barbets you may see 1 or 2 dogs trimmed in this manner. When I first bought my Barbet, I was told this trim was the 'hunting' trim, luckily I didn't go down that road :)

Is a Barbet a Gundog?
Martha surprised me on Saturday, so her new title will be Amazing Martha.
We have been on a new shoot which is quite near us and they were short of beaters so we went along, sadly Bepop is a bit big for this shoot as due to the distances we cover, sometimes a landrover is needed so the size of dog is very relevant. Anyway back to Martha......On the 5th drive of the day she appeared along a track with a huge cock bird that had only a leg injury, this was her first experience of a warm bird and to add a very large alive bird and she presented it to me beautifully, a very proud moment :). I didn't think the day would get better but on the last drive, when we were all exhausted as it had been a tough day with only 6 beaters and 2 dogs, a Spinione and a Barbet , amazing Martha worked like she had never done before. The last drive is called the the Water meadows, and with all the rain and flooding it was extremely wet!!!!, she worked the hedge without any instruction and flushed the birds and as she was doing all the work I got out my camera, and suddenly she appeared with a shot bird, so there you have it, Martha excelling at a job. At the end of the day she got a few more pats than normal from the guns, and a few more asking, ''what is your dog again?'' .

Shoot No.2 for Martha the Barbet
Well, Martha survived her 2nd Shoot yesterday and she definitely proved that she is not gun-shy and she is not a chaser. Once again we had a lot of deer yesterday on the drives, it is quite scary to see a deer heading straight at you.
Martha was more distracted yesterday as often Julian and I were in different places, quite sweet really that finding one of us was more important than a pheasant, and what was even more interesting is that she air scented every time.

Barbet dogs in the UK
Although I have far too many emails to read and phone calls to make, as I am still catching up after 8 weeks of puppies, I just felt the need to have a Barbet dog count.
This could be wrong, as not everyone will be in contact with the Barbet Club but at least these are the Barbets we know about.
We have 6 imported Barbets, 1 from France, 2 from Poland, 2 from Holland and 1 from Canada.
10 pups from Betsy
16 pups from Bepop.
9 pups from Ebene
12 pups from Dora
So we have at least 53 Barbets now living in the UK.
If you read this and you live in the UK and own a Barbet that has different parentage than the above then please get in touch so we can count you in as it would be good to have accurate numbers.
At my last count Betsy has 35 grandchildren,
Effie 8 puppies
Eton 27 puppies
Bepop has 30 grandchildren
Ooli (Dudley) 13 puppies
Dora 14 puppies
Duplo 3 puppies.
The next generation of breeding with Claude, Hallie, Martha and Hector will be very exciting for me, so far the health reports have been excellant, as Claude,Hallie and Hector all have A hips and you can't get better than that, Martha will have her hips scored at 12 months so fingers crossed and then just eye testing results to come.

Good news for Barbet puppies
I am rather shocked to be saying this but we have new people nextdoor and they have children who are so noisy it is wonderful. Are you shocked? My children are older, so we get car doors banging late at night, and we get loud music mingled with a few raised voices, but for puppies nothing beats young children screaming and yelling at random times. They have also been and bought a trampoline, which adds to my delight as the children bounce up and can see over our fence. Martha was completely gutted about this intrusion, but I am pleased to say that now she is just excited to see half a child appear and then disappear. On the downside for these kids, they have lost a few footballs, but dogs are dogs and random balls appearing in the garden makes them feel like its Xmas. So roll on Summer when the pups can go out and explore the garden and learn to live with the wonderful random noises that our neighbours make.

Solid Black Barbet boy puppy at 4 weeks old
At the moment he is the smallest puppy, and is completely black. He may be the smallest, but he happily manages to push out the others when it comes to feeding. Like Mr Blue he is responding well to the whistle, and he is normally the first to fall asleep once he has eaten breakfast or dinner so he runs out of steam the fastest. early days but my gut feeling is that he will be a gentle dog.
