The Kennel Club have accepted the Barbet

THE KENNEL CLUB

Well what can I say?
Finally ''The Barbet'' has been accepted onto the import register by the Kennel Club.

We now have a lot of work ahead of us, but we have been rehearsing this moment for years so I think we are well prepared.

A team effort by the Barbet Club, with input and encouragement from friends of the breed overseas too.

Congratulations to the Portuguese Pointer

The Game Fair is a wonderful opportunity to catch up on news, and this year I was amazed to find out that the Portuguese Pointer has finally been accepted as a new breed in the UK by The Kennel Club.
It has taken Pauline of Brittyhill Kennels, nearly 10 years with several applications, but finally the letter that she has been waiting for arrived.
So here they are now listed on the KC site:
Portuguese Pointers

What an achievement, and well done for not giving up hope Pauline.

Who will be next?
The French Spaniel or the French Braque or maybe The Barbet ( I can live in hope )

Barbet Puppies 2013

Watch this space as I will shortly be announcing my litter plans for Bepop who will be due on heat in March 2013.
Another Novaforesta litter I hear you shout '' bout time too''
After our fantastic success with previous litters, this litter will have been worth the wait.
If you are thinking of adding a Barbet to you family, please do check that the breeder shows you the health results and that you get the paperwork needed to prove that your dog is a Barbet.
If your puppy is not registered with a Kennel Club then it is not considered in the 'official' world of dogs as a pedigree Barbet. A registered Barbet will cost you approx £1000 in the UK and have a DNA profile to show its parentage. If any potential owner needs further advice, then ring any of the contact numbers on the GB site for further information as all are Barbet owners.

Kennel Club update......sob,sob,sob

I am very sad to write that I have had confirmation from the Kennel Club that as of July 2012 they have not accepted the Barbet as a recognised breed in the UK.
Why ?  I hear you shout.

Well, read below:

a.     The breed has only had a FCI standard since 2006 and is still classified as a developing breed by the FCI.

b.     Whilst it was acknowledged that the breed is fully recognised in France, there was still a very small UK gene pool. The Sub-Committee noted from the detail submitted on the two latest litters that they were very closely related, with the sire and dam of each being litter mates.

c.     The incidence of hip dysplasia in the breed was noted and the club was advised to monitor scores of UK stock closely.

I have asked the Kennel Club already to explain in more detail why they have classified the Barbet as a developing breed as that statement is incorrect and those details were not in my application, the correct details were given.
As for the incidence of hip dysplasia in the breed, was my application not read at all........shall I give them to you again.

Betsy 14 -B
Bepop 9-A
Ebene 9-A
Dolly 12-B
Dudley 6-A
Dora 2-A
Diamond Black 5-A
Duplo 6-A
Eton 8-A.

Good results I hear you say.

Kennel Club update

The  Breed Standards Sub-Committee will be meeting again on the 27th June 2012, and the recognition of the Barbet as a breed in the UK will be on their agenda.
The information requested by the Committee will be submitted in time for this meeting.

Having been the receiver of two rejections by the Breed Standards Sub Committee Kennel Club in the past, its far too early to get excited. My world crashed when we had our first rejection, by the second rejection I was getting more used to the idea!,and on a very positive note with the help of the French Club allowing us to take the Tan in England and in Wales and the wonderful assistance of The French Kennel Club the breed in the UK has achieved so much in the last three years. So my theory in life that something positive always comes from something negative remains true. Anyway, crossed fingers, crossed toes and crossed paws and think good thoughts  about the breed and its future on the 27th June.

CRUFTS What a result.

Well done Annette, her lovely boy Cenzo won Best overall Boy with strong competition.
Fantastic result and well deserved, Cenzo is the nicest male dog I think I have ever met, stunning in looks with a delightful character and so tolerant, as he has to live with Ooli (Novaforesta Dudley).
